Somerville Open Studios

It's here! The 18th annual Somerville Open Studios (SOS).
Over 350 local artists are opening their studios and workshops to the public this weekend.

All SOS events and locations are entirely free. There's no charge. There's no catch. Just come experience art and be part of the community!

The Artists' Choice Exhibit offers the best opportunity to preview the studios and artists' work. All SOS participating artists are invited to submit work, creating a group show that is unparalleled in diversity and excitement. Come to the Artists' Choice Exhibit first to plan your weekend.

SOS is created and run by scores of fantastic volunteers from within and around our community. The Volunteer Appreciation Show highlights work from this elite group of artists in Davis Square's popular and locally owned Diesel Cafe. View this show while enjoying tasty treats from our friends at Diesel from Forge Bakery and perusing your SOS map booklet.

Diesel Cafe is open Monday-Friday 6 am - 11 pm, Saturday and Sunday 7 am - 11 pm.



Inside-OUT Gallery at CVS

April 1 - May 2, 2016

Stroll by the CVS window in Davis Square, and stop to enjoy an exhibition by SOS artists on the theme of "Greetings from Somerville / Wish You Were Here." Artists share their style and story in this highly visible art show, on view 24/7 through the month of April and the weekend of Open Studios.

This year's Inside-OUT artists are Julie Angela Theresa, Jim Baab, Stan Eichner, Emily Garfield, Pauline Lim, Rachel Mello, Jennifer Park, Sunday Studios by Jamie, and Christina Tedesco.

What I Make; How I Made It

A curated show by Miranda's Hearth. This juried exhibition displays a variety of work as well as the story behind it, in conjunction with #WhatIMake: The Conference on April 16. Meet the makers at a reception on Friday, April 29, from 6-9 pm.


Cinema Somerville Film Fest: Somerville Shorts

Saturday, April 30, 2016, 7-9 pm
SCATV, 90 Union Square (map)

SCATV's free outdoor film festival in Union Square plaza showcases 15 locally-made short films in a variety of genres. The event will have local food vendors selling delicious treats. If it rains, the festival will move indoors to the SCATV studio. Co-sponsored by SCATV and the Somerville Arts Council's ArtsUnion series.


SOS Bike Tour

Sunday, May 1, 2016, meet at 12 noon
Nave Gallery, 155 Powder House Boulevard (map)

Join fellow cycling enthusiasts on an art tour through Somerville. Riders will meet at the Nave Gallery near Teele Square at noon, and stop in four neighborhoods for 30 minutes each to visit local artists before riding on to their next stop. The tour will end at Artisan's Asylum and Aeronaut Brewing Company. Co-sponsored by the Somerville Bicycle Committee.


End of SOS Celebration

Come unwind with fellow artists and the community. We will be giving away a free registration to the 2017 Somerville Open Studios, t-shirts, and there will be Bantam's delicious cider!

Flatbread SOS Fundraiser

Eat Tasty Flatbread, Support SOS! A portion of all pizza sales this night go to support Somerville Open Studios. We will also have a raffle with exciting prizes, including tickets to the ICA and a gift certificate to Blue Cloud Gallery. Come and enjoy the company of your favorite SOS artists and volunteers.
