Survivor Quilt Project: Incest Survivors Speaking Truth to the Next Generation
The goal of this exhibit is to encourage a larger discussion about how parents, caregivers, and family members can speak truth about incest to the next generation in a way that is honest and protective, yet sensitive to the developmental needs of children.
We are expanding our scope to focus on a proactive and preventative response to incest by including and contextualizing incest within the context of sexuality as a multifaceted human experience. We are conceptualizing the SQP in a community based studio, building a safe community through the arts to foster and contain this process. Our emphasis is moving to respond from an empowered position to the larger societal context that creates violation, shame, silence, and isolation for incest survivors.
