Artist's Statement

Melissa Glick’s Hacker Creations are abstract geometrical compositions, full of intricacy and beauty. They are made by arranging disassembled computer parts & other old technology with color and pattern into a 3D collage or assemblage. With a keen sense of composition and sensitivity to tiny detail, 2D color and pattern are combined with 3D shapes, contours & texture that celebrate the beauty and ingenuity imbued in machines. She sites her biggest influences as Louise Nevelson, Joseph Cornell and, The Bauhaus.

“Art making is my solution to the problem, I love the challenge of putting these elements to use again and making people see things in a new way. My work addresses both the waste of throwing out valuable resources and the short sightedness our current economic model which is based on making things poor quality, intended to break, become obsolete thus requiring us to spend money for them to be replaced with new stuff. When they are dumped into landfills, it is not only bad for the environment it is a waste of valuable materials and decades of engineering effort. Taking apart shows the quality and beauty of older objects… what is the oldest mechanical thing you own?
