Rachel Smith works in the intersection of design and craft and currently focuses on handmade soaps and body products under her brand, HANDMADE FOR. All of her soaps are vegetable-based and created in the traditional cold-process method right in her Somerville kitchen. Her other products include solid lotion bars, salves, beard oil, and aftershave, among others. She only uses all-natural ingredients, including sustainably harvested palm oil. Her items are currently sold online, at local farmers markets and craft shows, and at various retail locations. This is her first year participating in Somerville Open Studios and she couldn’t be more excited. She can’t wait to share her methods and her kitchen, and hopes to inspire others to enjoy natural body products. She’s planned a few items especially for Somerville Open Studios, including stamps to customize each bar. The HANDMADE FOR brand was built to be modular and fun and is perfect for personalization.
