My work is process oriented-rooted in the observation and interpretation of the urban landscape. I continue a fundamental relation to the visible world of real objects while eschewing their literal appearance.
In my recent work, I explore the process of building and printing with wood. Simplicity of form, depth of color and a clean finished surface are the main elements of these works. My forms are reduced to a blocky graphic schema of interlocking parts and are often displayed in stacks and rows. Despite being diminutive in size, the formal economy enhances their expressive power.
Other notable influences in my work include folk art, handmade wooden toys, inuit prints and the strong graphics of vintage paper ephemera such as postcards and matchbook labels.
