After many years of printmaking, I am suddenly aware of a new consciousness about the process of printmaking and why it is exciting. I make an image on a plate and put it through the press and lift the paper eagerly. What will it look like? For one thing it comes out backwards. The ink may be a bit heavy and the color a little strange. But there it is - my creation - but different. It has a life of its own and leads me down new avenues. That to me is the excitement and pleasure of being a printmaker. |
